The way things were... Cash Machine Space
Solo show - CashMachine space. (Also includes Kaldi Space and Kaldi Billboard) July-Aug. 2015
Photography records a moment which has transpired by the time the image is recorded. It is a medium grounded solely in reproduction. I'm working within this framework to manipulate a space photograph, hang those images and rephotograph them to show the space with its own reflections. The space becomes its own subject matter, along with my time spent shooting and installing the work.
This project is focused on memory, the passage of time, personal reflection and the physical reflection of objects and images inhabiting a space, and what happens when the documentation of the changing space is the subject of the final presentation. I moved my office into the Cash Machine space for a month, adding books, some finished work and a lot of my test pieces then I photographed the space as it was and added prints of those photos back into the space, rearranging and rephotographing those images and transforming the space physically with documentation of my time spent.
When the viewer walks into the space, he or she will be able to see the time spent creating the work, just by viewing the work.
